MCNP – ISAP joins Zonta, MTWD Tree Planting Activity
In celebration of the International Women’s Month, the Medical Colleges of Northern Philippines (MCNP) and International School of Asia and the Pacific (ISAP) have joined the Zonta Club of Central Tuguegarao and Metro Tuguegarao Water District (MTWD) in conducting a Tree Planting Activity on March 7, 2021 at Lagum, Peñablanca, Cagayan.
Majority of the participants were women who planted 500 seedlings of indigenous species of trees such as Narra, Ipil, and Lumboy. These were provided by the MTWD.
The Zonta Club of Central Tuguegarao decided to focus on an environmental activity because of the flood that devastated the province in the latter part of 2020.
“We decided to conduct this Tree-planting activity because you know meron tayong malaking flood brought by Typhoon Ulysses so we shifted our focus on environment and we purposely created an environment committee to address this problem,” said Judge Raquel Reyes – Aglaua, head of Zonta Club of Central Tuguegarao.
Out of 670 hectares the MTWD gave 5 hectares to the organization to be utilized and maintained. It is called Zonta Forest and Garden which will be visited every 6 months.
Meanwhile, the MTWD targets to plant 15,000 trees in the whole area this year, and only less than 10% were planted as of March 7, 2021.
The partnership between MCNP-ISAP and Zonta Club of Central Tuguegarao was achieved through the Community Extension Services Office headed by Mr. Valentin Cera.
